Dances are one of the many ways that Choctaw people are able to pass on their centuries-old traditions to each new generation. People from all cultures and places have used storytelling to pass on traditions, values, and beliefs that communicate information about history, nature, and more.

Social dances reflect the ties that weave Choctaw communities together. African American dances are those dances which have developed within African American communities in everyday spaces, rather than in dance studios, schools or companies and its derivatives, tap dance , disco , jazz dance , swing dance , hip hop dance and breakdance .

Many of the classical dance styles found in Indian are complicated and are not entirely suitable for children of a young age. Latin American & Salsa are dance styles that are performed with partners and are enjoyed both socially and competitively all around the globe. The different dance styles incorporated in Zumba include Mambo, Cumbia, Merengue, Cha-cha, and Reggaeton (a Latin hip-hop).

Music choices may be modern interpretations, such as that written by composer Steven Flynn for Gray’s productions, or in line with the instrumentation reveled to us through archeology, as composed by Professor Jihad Racy in “ Tribute to Ancient Egypt . Once you are comfortable with your music, change to music that you would expect to hear wherever you’re going to be dancing. The musicality of tango is the most important element of the dance.

Costumes are customarily very glitzy and elaborately beaded. Various styles have been popular over the years. The Jingle Dress Dance is a very sacred dance and is new in the powwow world. It is a healing dance and therefore is not (or should not be) a competitive dance event. You are very in tune with your body.
